'That was a win for me:' Arlington, Va. teen wins $250K in racing championship

ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — Hudson Schwartz is not your typical teen. The 14-year-old from Arlington, Virginia has never seen the road, but he drives at speeds of 150 mph.

“It's definitely very mind-boggling,” Schwartz said. “But my parents, they're not so keen on letting me drive on the road. They think I’m going to go a little fast.”

Fueled by his dad’s love for the sport, Hudson began go-karting at age four. More recently, he's turned his attention to race cars.

“I was at the national races competing for 31st [place] and that was a win for me,” Schwartz said. “So now when I really look back, I've seen how far I’ve come.”

Moving on a trajectory as fast as the race cars he drives, Schwartz recently won the biggest race of his career in Sebring, Florida at the Lucas Oil Formula Car Championship.

“I won the championship for $250,000,” Hudson said. “I knew it could really help me further my racing career, as well. It was probably the most amazing feeling I’ve ever had."

An amazing feeling Hudson and 7Sports had the chance to virtually recreate.

“All my memories are coming back. It really is like reliving the moment,” Hudson said.

With no racetrack close by to practice, Hudson spends hours on his racing simulator equipped with every track in the country.

“Everything is honestly super realistic,” he said.

Hudson said while most drivers have similar simulators, it’s his commitment to fitness that gives him a leg up.

“The neck is a big part of it,” Schwartz said. “As fighter pilots pull about six G's, we're pulling about three. So, it's very, very hard.”

After accomplishing so much at such a young age, 7Sports asked Schwartz where he sees himself in the future.

“I could see myself behind the wheel racing a car, obviously F1 Indy cars, really my main goal,” he said. “But as long as I'm behind the wheel, I'm happy.”
