A 14-year-old boy was injured in a shooting over a high-end jacket in Hyattsville, Maryland Friday afternoon, according to the Hyattsville Police Department (HPD).
Officials said the shooting happened in the 3500 block of Carnaby Street near Northwestern High School.
According to HPD, three teen boys were walking down the street when three males (believed to be adults) confronted them, demanding the green Moose Knuckle jacket of one of them. Officials said the teen refused to hand over the jacket, leading to a fight; one of the men then pulled a gun and fired multiple shots, one of which hit the teen with the jacket.
"It's absurd, it's just another example of ruthless crime," Hyattsville Police Department Chief Jarod Towers said during the news conference. "We have a problem nationwide."

The injured teen was taken to the hospital in a critical but stable condition. The other teen victims ran off.
Police said a witness stayed at the scene with the injured boy.
Due to police activity, officials with the Prince George's County Public School told 7News that the high school was placed on lockdown. That lockdown notice has since been lifted.
Prince George's Councilmember Wanika Fisher put out the following statement on the incident:
Sukhbir Singh lives not far from where the boy was shot and saw the aftermath. He said this is a brand new community, and they're already on edge.
"We need to talk to our community as well, within our community how can we do more, just for the safety and be the eyes...for other people," Singh said. "We haven't set up anything yet as a community, as a group, but I think this is the wake up call for us."
The three suspects are described as follows: one was wearing a black puffer jacket, a second was wearing a blue jacket and the third suspect was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
